How to unbox, assemble and start riding your Legend eBike.

    Are Legend bikes delivered assembled?

Legend eBikes are delivered largely assembled. Depending on the model, you may need to fit the front wheel and pedals or align the stem before your first ride.

The necessary tools are included. Assembly normally takes 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your experience.

Model Category Assembly level Final preparation
Monza 20-inch urban bike 100% assembled None
Siena 24-inch urban bike 100% assembled None
Milano 26-inch urban bike 80% assembled Fit the front wheel and pedals, then align and secure the stem.
Etna 27.5-inch mountain bike 90% assembled Fit the front wheel and pedals. If you ordered the Basic Kit, align and secure the stem as well.

The optional Basic Kit changes the final preparation required for the Etna.

How should I prepare for my first ride?

Choose a quiet, controlled area away from traffic, other cyclists and obstacles. Use this first ride to familiarise yourself with the controls and the way your eBike responds.

Lock the battery in place and remove the key before riding. An unlocked battery can move or fall from the bike. Damage caused by riding with an unlocked battery is not covered by the warranty.

An eBike handles much like a conventional bicycle, but it is heavier and may take longer to stop. Start in a stable, balanced position.

Wear suitable safety equipment, including a helmet and reflective items. Glasses and gloves are also recommended. Check the rules that apply where you ride.

Before you set off, check the following:

    • Saddle: Adjust the height so that you feel secure and can control the bike. New riders may prefer a slightly lower saddle so they can place both feet on the ground while seated. Experienced riders can raise it for efficient leg extension, provided they can stop and dismount safely.
    • Tyres: Check that both tyres are correctly inflated. See What pressure should I inflate my Legend eBike tyres to?
    • Brakes: Test both brakes at low speed. Shift your weight slightly backwards and apply the brake levers progressively. Using the front brake too sharply can pitch you over the handlebar. Excessive braking can lock a wheel and cause loss of control.
    • Suspension: If fitted, learn how the suspension responds to braking and changes in weight distribution.
    • Mechanical gears: Learn how the gears work before increasing the pedal assistance. This helps you use the motor efficiently. See Can I change gear while the bike is stationary?
    • Pedal assistance: Start at a low level and increase it gradually. Use the brakes to control your speed.

Important: The bike can accelerate quickly from a standstill. Make sure the path ahead is clear before you start pedalling.

Step 1: Switch on the battery.

How do I fit the pedals?

    Tool required

    Use a 15 mm open-ended spanner.

    Steps

    1. Identify each pedal. Fit the pedal marked R to the right crank and the pedal marked L to the left crank.
    2. Make sure the threads are clean. Apply a small amount of bicycle grease if available.
    3. Start each pedal by hand to avoid cross-threading. The right pedal tightens clockwise. The left pedal has a reverse thread and tightens anticlockwise.
    4. Finish tightening both pedals securely with the 15 mm spanner. Stop if the pedal does not turn smoothly; forcing it can damage the crank thread.

    1. Open the seatpost quick-release lever.
    2. Raise or lower the seatpost to the required height.
    3. Close the quick-release lever firmly before riding. If the clamp is too loose or too tight, adjust its tension before closing it.

Never raise the seatpost beyond the minimum-insertion mark engraved on it.
